Dental implants: a present solution to teeth loss due to gum problems
For many centuries people have searched for solutions concerning teeth loss, by means of anchorage systems fixed to the dental bone.
In the eighties of the past century, thanks to a discovery made by chance, scientists found out that titanium had a special capacity to interact with the bone, forming a solid union with it (osseointegration).
Since then, continuous advances have been made in implantology, and nowadays dental implants are a solution to the loss of teeth due to periodontal diseases, as long as:
- The periodontal disease has been treated and is controlled in the whole mouth
- The patient keeps a good bone structure, concerning quality and quantity
- The patient follows a correct dental hygiene.
