Healthy gums: The main objective of periodontics
A healthy gum has a pale pink color. It has a hard, firm and not slippery consistency. Its surface is keratinized and it may show protuberances similar to an orange skin.
Sometimes it might be pigmented in brown. This pigmentation is due to cells called melanocytes, which are in charge of producing melanin.
Healthy gums are not affected by bacterial plaque.
